Frequently Asked Questions

Who is behind Guitars for C.A.T.?

Guitars for C.A.T. was founded by Tibor Pulius, professional guitarist, founding member of Supernem, guitarist of ARTŪR RAMBO, experienced session musician and long-time guitar collector.

Tibor has spent decades playing, collecting and trading instruments. Every guitar offered by Guitars for C.A.T. is personally selected and reviewed by him.

Are the guitars original and authentic?

Every guitar is personally inspected before being offered for sale.

The product page and condition report describe the instrument’s year, serial number, condition, known repairs, refinishing, modifications, original and replaced parts, accessories and available documentation.

Vintage guitars can have complex histories. If a detail cannot be verified with certainty, we clearly disclose this rather than make an unsupported claim.

Can I see and hear the guitar before buying?

Yes. Each product page includes a button to book a private video call with Tibor.

During the call, Tibor can show you the guitar in detail, demonstrate its sound, discuss its history and condition, and answer your questions before you make a decision.

You can select an available appointment directly from the online calendar.

What happens during the private video call?

The video viewing is tailored to the instrument and your questions. Tibor can show you:

  • the body, neck, fretboard and frets;
  • the serial number and identifying details;
  • pickups, electronics and controls;
  • existing wear, repairs, refinishing or modifications;
  • original and replaced components;
  • the case, documents and included accessories;
  • the sound of the guitar through an amplifier.

The video call helps you make a more informed decision. It does not limit or replace any statutory consumer rights.

Can I try the guitar in person?

Yes. Personal viewings are available by appointment in Budapest.

If you only book an appointment online and the guitar is inspected, purchased and paid for in person at our premises, the purchase is normally not considered a distance contract. In this case, the statutory 14-day distance-selling withdrawal right does not apply.

If the purchase contract has already been concluded online or by email, personal collection alone does not necessarily change it into an in-store purchase.

Can I buy a vintage guitar purely as a decorative or collectible object?

Absolutely. You do not need to be a professional musician—or even a guitarist—to own an exceptional instrument.

Many vintage guitars are collected as pieces of design, music history and cultural heritage. Their craftsmanship, materials, patina and story can make them striking display objects even when they are not played regularly.

If you plan to display the guitar, we recommend keeping it away from direct sunlight, radiators, moisture and sudden changes in temperature or humidity. Always use a secure stand, display case or wall mount suitable for the instrument and its finish.

The same product description, condition documentation and purchasing terms apply whether you buy the guitar to play, collect or display.

Is a vintage guitar really a good investment?

Yes—the right vintage guitar can be.

Rare, original and well-documented instruments have a limited supply, while demand from musicians and collectors is international. The strongest examples combine craftsmanship, history, cultural significance and genuine rarity, giving them real potential to preserve or increase their value over time.

The key is not simply buying an old guitar. It is choosing the right instrument at the right price, with its originality, condition, modifications and provenance clearly understood. Tibor personally reviews these details and explains what makes each guitar significant before you buy.

No collectible can offer a guaranteed return. But a carefully selected vintage guitar gives you something most investments cannot: you can play it, display it and enjoy it while owning a genuine piece of music history.

How is the price of a vintage guitar determined?

The price is based on the individual instrument rather than only its model and year.

We consider its originality, condition, provenance, rarity, documentation, repairs, modifications, current market demand and comparable instruments where reliable information is available.

A refinished or modified guitar may still be historically important, collectible and valuable, but these details must be reflected transparently in both its description and price.

How can I buy a guitar?

The process is simple:

  1. Choose the instrument you are interested in.
  2. Book a private video viewing or send us an enquiry.
  3. Tibor will personally present the guitar and answer your questions.
  4. You will receive the final price, shipping cost, shipping protection details and payment information in writing.
  5. After payment, the guitar will be documented, carefully packed and dispatched.
  6. You will receive the tracking details and the relevant condition documentation.

What payment methods do you accept?

For shipped orders, payment is made by bank transfer based on a pro forma invoice.

Cash payment is available when the guitar is purchased and collected personally in Budapest.

Payment details are always confirmed directly by Guitars for C.A.T. before payment is requested.

Do you ship to Germany, France and other European countries?

Yes. We ship guitars to Germany, France and other European destinations.

Shipping is arranged individually because the cost and appropriate transport method depend on the destination, the size and value of the instrument, and the level of transport protection required.

Before payment, we confirm in writing:

  • the selected carrier or specialist transport provider;
  • the shipping price;
  • the estimated delivery time;
  • the tracking method;
  • the amount and conditions of the applicable transport cover.

For destinations outside the European Union, local customs duties, taxes and import charges may also apply.

Who is responsible for the guitar during delivery?

When shipping is arranged by Guitars for C.A.T., the instrument remains our responsibility until you—or a third party nominated by you—physically receive it.

If the package appears visibly damaged at delivery, please photograph the package before opening it and contact us as soon as possible. This helps us investigate the damage with the carrier and does not limit your statutory consumer rights.

Is every guitar fully insured during shipping?

The level of transport protection depends on the value of the guitar, the destination and the terms of the selected carrier or insurance provider.

Standard courier liability may be significantly lower than the value of a rare or vintage guitar. For this reason, we do not treat standard courier liability as full-value insurance.

Before the purchase is completed, Guitars for C.A.T. confirms in writing the exact amount and conditions of the available transport cover. Depending on the instrument and destination, enhanced carrier cover, separate cargo insurance or a specialist transport service may be required.

If appropriate cover cannot be arranged for the full agreed value on a particular route, we will inform you before payment and propose an alternative delivery or personal collection option. The instrument will not be dispatched under undisclosed or insufficient transport conditions.

How is the guitar packed?

Before dispatch, the guitar is photographed and its condition is documented.

The instrument is secured inside its case where a suitable case is included. Movable accessories are packed separately, and the case is placed in protective outer packaging designed to minimise movement and impact during transit.

The packaging method may vary depending on the instrument, its case and the selected transport service.

What condition documentation is provided?

Before dispatch, we prepare a dated condition record for the guitar. Depending on the instrument, this may include:

  • the serial number;
  • detailed photographs;
  • a condition video;
  • existing marks, wear and damage;
  • known repairs and modifications;
  • original and replaced components;
  • the case, documents and accessories included in the sale.

This establishes the condition of the instrument at the time of dispatch and protects both the buyer and Guitars for C.A.T.

Can I return a used or vintage guitar?

Yes. If you purchase online as a private consumer within the European Union, you generally have the statutory right to withdraw from the purchase without giving a reason within 14 days of receiving the guitar.

The fact that an instrument is second-hand or vintage does not in itself exclude this right.

You can exercise your right of withdrawal through our online withdrawal function or by sending us a clear written statement. After notifying us, the guitar must be returned within 14 days.

Full details are available in our Withdrawal and Returns Policy and General Terms and Conditions.

Can I try the guitar during the 14-day withdrawal period?

You may inspect and test the guitar only to the extent necessary to establish its nature, characteristics and proper functioning—similar to how you would reasonably try an instrument in a guitar shop.

This can normally include:

  • visually inspecting the guitar;
  • holding and tuning it;
  • connecting it to a suitable amplifier;
  • briefly playing it indoors;
  • checking the pickups, switches and controls.

Use beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect the instrument may result in a documented reduction in value.

What may cause a reduction in value?

Depending on the individual circumstances, a reduction in value may arise from:

  • using the guitar at a concert, rehearsal or recording session;
  • prolonged or repeated use;
  • new scratches, dents, buckle rash or other damage;
  • altering the neck, bridge, tremolo or instrument setup;
  • changing strings, pickups, electronics or other components;
  • opening, disassembling or modifying the guitar;
  • missing documents, accessories, parts or the original case;
  • exposure to smoke, moisture or unsuitable environmental conditions;
  • insufficient protective packaging during return.

Exercising the right of withdrawal cannot be refused solely because the guitar was handled. However, the buyer may be responsible for an actual and objectively documented reduction in value caused by handling beyond what was necessary to inspect the instrument.

Guitars for C.A.T. does not apply an automatic restocking fee. Any reduction in value is assessed individually and must be supported by condition documentation.

Who pays for return shipping?

The buyer pays the direct cost of returning the guitar following withdrawal, provided that this was communicated before the purchase.

Because the shipping cost of a valuable instrument can be significant, the expected cost or a reasonable maximum estimate will be provided before the purchase contract is concluded.

Please contact us before dispatching the return. Guitars for C.A.T. can help arrange a suitable tracked return service with the necessary transport protection, but the direct cost of this return service is paid by the buyer.

The buyer may also choose another suitable carrier. The statutory right of withdrawal is not conditional on using a carrier selected by Guitars for C.A.T.

The instrument must be returned with all cases, documents and accessories, using the original packaging or packaging that provides equivalent protection.

When will I receive my refund?

The refund will be processed no later than 14 days after we are informed of the withdrawal.

We may withhold the refund until the guitar has been returned or until you provide clear evidence that it has been sent back, whichever occurs first.

The refund includes the purchase price and the cost of our least expensive standard delivery option. Any additional cost resulting from an express or premium shipping method selected by the buyer does not have to be refunded.

What happens when a returned guitar arrives?

The package and the guitar are inspected and documented immediately after arrival.

The instrument’s condition is compared with the dated photographs, video, serial number, accessories and condition report prepared before dispatch.

If the guitar is returned in the same condition, apart from reasonable inspection, the applicable refund is completed without an additional deduction.

Any new damage, missing item or claimed reduction in value must be individually documented. No automatic percentage or standard restocking charge is applied.

What if the guitar is damaged during the original delivery?

Please document the unopened package and any visible damage with photographs and contact us immediately.

When delivery was arranged by Guitars for C.A.T., we remain responsible for the instrument until it is physically received by you or a person nominated by you. We will handle the claim and communication with the carrier or transport protection provider.

Reporting visible damage quickly makes the investigation easier, but it does not remove or reduce your statutory rights.

What if the guitar is faulty or different from its description?

Please contact us immediately.

A defective or incorrectly described instrument is handled separately from the 14-day withdrawal process. Your statutory rights relating to product conformity and defective performance remain unaffected by the Withdrawal and Returns Policy.

We disclose known wear, repairs, refinishing and modifications before purchase so that you can make an informed decision.

Can I return a guitar after the 14-day period?

Guitars for C.A.T. does not provide an additional voluntary “try at home” or extended money-back guarantee beyond the statutory withdrawal period.

After the statutory period has expired, a return is only possible if separately agreed or if the buyer has a valid legal claim relating to a defect or non-conformity.

Do you buy used and vintage guitars?

Yes. If you would like to sell a high-quality, rare or vintage guitar, send us its model, year, serial number, condition, known modifications and detailed photographs.

Tibor will review the information personally and contact you if the instrument may be a good fit for the Guitars for C.A.T. collection.
